Velma's sister Madelyn Dinkley by weezlcheez Velma's sister Madelyn Dinkley by weezlcheez
This is a request for :iconalaxr274: This is Madelyn Dinkley, Velma's sister from Scooby Doo. Twelve weeks ago Chris ask me to draw this for him. I had not drawn anything in over a year and figured that if I was ever going to start drawing again I would need to begin somewhere. Chris has watched me for years and I dicided that his request would be the one to get me going. Well, as I said it took me 12 weeks but I did get going. Sorry it took so long Chris. I hope it was worth the wait.

Hi Tokio, I'm sorry that it took me so long to get back to you. Thank you so much for the kind comments. Glad you liked the pic. It amazes me how popular this character is. What was she in, two episodes. But obviously they were two memorible episodes. So thanks again.

Well the wait is far from over and yet still one spectacular piece of artwork remains!

You know, we don't get alot of variety outside of Velma here on the DA and request or not its actually VERY refreshing to see something else besides her just get the attention of the geeky, sexy girl.  For whatever it may count for still lad this is pretty amazing with what you were able to accomplish on such a very minor part this character had and made it something much more for the fans to see.

Really do see that Velma Dinkley charm part in her too.  She's definitely far from Velma in alot of ways but you can really see that family resemblance in her dude and heck that itself isn't the easiest thing for any artist to have to figure out, trust me on that one. ^O^

Either way though you get well into the cuteness factor she would share with her sister as you get that nice look of something pin-up with the way she looks at you so positively and that clenched fist full of energy like she herself is ready to start a mystery, Scooby Snacks or not!

Along with the good work to develope the character, another great cheer should be mentioned towards the work on the lines and some effective use of your shadowing.  Like in here you took your time in those 12 weeks to make sure nothing seemed rush as you render out the light shadows coming from the hair, the sides of her left arm and even the fingers getting darker as they get further away from the light.

The additional work like on the glasses really works out quite well as you get those large glasses of hers to really fit that tiny and cutesy face of hers, well done sir.  And yet even given how much those glasses hide the other parts of the face, you make it add to the character in where other times you'd be distracted by their awkwardness.

Fitting in that nice black panel for the background somehow works too.  Like how it seems to work with the angle and position of her pose and where you kept most of your lines.  In that way you get to see more of the centerpiece which is her then again being drawn away into something your not intending.

Its those little things that can make a great picture and even your old pics shine as bright as they ever were Charlie, hats off and then some to that. ^-^

Hi Tyler, It's good to hear from you. So, you found my Madelyn pic. I'm glad you like it. I was pretty happy with this one when I drew it. Well actually, I still am. It was a request and when I saw who it was they wanted me to draw I figured it was going to get lost among all of the art that gets submitted everyday. I was wrong about that. This has been a surprisingly popular pic. Apparently, there is a large Scooby fandom out there. Since I drew it it is probably my second most faved posting. Like I said it has all been a mystery to me.  I've always wondered why one pic catches on and another gets ignored. I have a a couple of pics that I just knew were going to be "hits." They were posted when a show was at it's peak of popularity. I obviously thought that the art was pretty good and I thought that they were redesigned to a point that made them interesting. But, they just never got noticed. Then, there are pics like this one that I didn't expect anything from yet barely a week goes by that it doesn't get at least a couple faves. Does this happen to you?  That would be an interesting thing to put in one of those journal/question things; have people post art that they thought was going to be a hit and one that they thought was going to be a dud. I'm pretty sure I'll never post that journal but if you think its a cool Idea feel free to use it.

I am so excited that you noticed that fist that Madelyn is making. A bit of thought went into that fist. A couple of days before I drew this pic I was talking to a young lady. I don't remember why but she struck a pose like a "fighter." She danced around like she was sparring. While i'm sure she thought she looked tough, she looked anything but that. I couldn't help noticing the way she made her fists. It was so "girlie." I had never actually seen Madelyn before I drew this pic so I went out to Utube and watched an episode with her in it. She reminded me of that tough girl and I knew that I just had to include her fighting fist in my drawing. It was taken from real life. Whenever I look at that pic, I always focus in on that part of the picture. I still get a kick out of it.

So thank you. I can't begin to tell you how much your comments mean to me. You always seem to see the things that I think no one else will notice. A drawing is never done until there is a Timmy22 comment attached to it. Thank you my friend.

Yeah its hard to believe but there's a reason why Scooby is still around today and that's because of the secret army of fans that keep supporting him and those crazy kids, lol.  Its good to see you did manage to get the request done when you did lad as you seemed to have made your own, "hit" with drawing Madelyn so well it would make even Velma be jealous, lol.

Oh all the time dude in regards to pic that sometimes sizzle and others that really can blow away your audience, it happens all the time!  Would best sum up the success of some deviant's work like a roll of a dice where sometimes you'll be a smash hit and other times you'll be barely scrapping by with a few favs.  That would be a cool idea to consider that to ask the people, but really dude I have that same sense of wonder myself as to why some pics and characters you can connect to.  Think its better to leave it as the magic of artwork instead of figuring it out, but by all means think you got the post a journal button just as much as any other deviant here. ^O^

Wow that sounds like you made a real artistic connection to your pic lad, that's something very rare to happen!  Quite impressive to see that your able to read something like that from someone you barely know and like you said it yourself implied it to your work and with some research you crafted something totally unique to you.  That's one of the reasons like reading artwork this very manner, you get a story and a connection to others and their own work instead of someone who made something within the 20 minute mark, lol.  But that's something do hope you'll continue to hold onto with this pic lad, everyone has a story to tell but artwork hides even more beneath its lines. *grins*

You have nothing to thanks this crab for lad, its the greatest pleasure to be able to read into the heart and depth an artist like yourself puts in much more then demanding that everything has to look so perfect to the eyes, bleh.  Much rather see what the work already is and compliments on what's already there as you have always done with my own work Charlie.  With that said I'm always at the ready to lay down any feedback towards anything you share with us on the DA old friend, now and forever or at least until the next Timmy takes over. ^O^

PS - And a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you lad!  Not sure if that note spammed to everyone got through so this be just in case, lol.

See, this is why I've always said that Daphne was only okay. The Dinkley women are just too much for her to compete with.

I have to agree. Daphne was cool but Velma was hot. There are so many great sexy pics of Velma here at DA. You can get lost for hours checkin' them all out. I think I might just go do that. Thanks for commenting.
